Razakou Aboubakari – Representative and Head of Education Togo, Sokode

Razakou Aboubakari is a 3rd grade teacher at Koulounde Elementary School in Sokodé. He has also been the director of the NGO “Ecole Pour Tous” and partner of Peace Corps Togo in the English Gender Education for the past 6 years. He has been working with Education Togo since day one and is a big local support for our organization, our and the communities local contact for all matters.


 

Naffisatu Conteh – Project Supervision Halupakaboundu

Naffi was born in Sierra Leone, where she spent half of her life. She moved to the United States during the 10-year civil war. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from the Virginia Commonwealth University. She is currently a Peace Corps Volunteer in Togo, West Africa. She is working in the Environmental Action and Food Security Program. Naffi lives in a small village called Halupkabound in Central Togo. Previous projects she led in Togo include programs dealing with the sustainability of food, farming techniques as well as environmental awareness with different groups. She has also worked with young women and girls with the aim of empowering them to stand up and fight for gender equality. Besides, she has worked on the plantation of Moringa trees in the village at the local hospital, where she raised awareness on child malnutrition. Finally, Naffi has founded an environmental club as part of the village middle school where she teaches children of all grades environmental, nutrition, and science related topics. She also volunteers in an organization that provides medical supply to pregnant women in Bo, Sierra Leone. 

 Katy Kienitz – Education Togo USA

Katy was a volunteer for the United States Peace Corps and spent 2 years in Sokodé, Togo. She is a founding member of Education Togo and set the basis for all operations. Her altruistic and supportive way of life goes without saying. She opened our eyes for the needs of the children in Togo. She has organized the local staff, handled the contractors, and coordinated the help of the community during the construction works for the C.E.G. Salimdé. She was the main source of information in Togo and the intermediate between the funds from around the world and the project in Africa. After the succesful implementation of the school in Sokodé, Katy returned to the U.S. in November 2011 and continued supporting the operations of Education Togo. She is in charge of raising funds and administrating the U.S.-based part of the association.
