Our first Project – C.E.G Salimde

The local community has designated a plot of land for the school building and has pledged to contribute 25% of the approximately EUR 21,000 (USD 30,000) needed to build the classrooms. This left us with EUR 15,000 to raise, wich we did in 10 weeks!

The Togolese Republic, often known as Togo, is a country in West Africa bordered by Ghana to the west, Benin to the east and Burkina Faso to the north. Sokode lies almost exactly in the middle of this small West African nation and with 100,000 inhabitants, it is Togo’s second-largest town.

The community that Education Togo is supporting had no middle school which we changed successfully. Education Togo had the full support of the local community as well as from friends of our organization who live in Sokode to enable the community to live a better, healthier and well-educated life.

The chief of the local community, the community itself, and a local contractor had full commitment to get this project done in a short time. Once they began the construction – for local people by local people – it took them 3 months to complete the project.

Even more! – Help for the women

In Togo, women are the backbone of families. They do all the house work (cooking, cleaning, hauling water from the well, etc.), raise the kids, and organize the families. However, when it comes time to pay school fees, most families lack the funds to send all of their children to school and it is usually the boys that get that opportunity.
We wanted to change this. With every Euro that exceeded the amount we needed for the school, we provided scholarships for girls.
